Show #1 – April 11, 2007

Hi-ho and welcome to the MuppetCast! This podcast promises to be an interesting and informative show, right podcast?

Podcast: “I promise!”

We start off with a clip of Sam the American Eagle that I edited back in college, and it still makes me giggle.

In this first episode I spend just a very little bit of time introducing myself, and then it’s on with the show! Since I am guessing that a lot of Disney fans will be listening to the podcast, I felt that a good jumping-off point would be to talk about the TV special “The Muppets at Walt Disney World“. So we play a few songs and I give a synopsis of the show, with some editorial inserts along the way.

There’s a brief muppet merchandise section, where I talk about the one Muppet product I found out of all the stores in my local mall a few weeks ago.

Finally, to wrap up the show, there’s a more serious moment where I discuss just why I think this podcast will be successful. The Muppets hold a very special place with most of us, and we talk about why that is. But I promise, the seriousness is held to a bare minimum!

And that’s pretty much the show. I would love to hear from other Muppet fans and get some feedback! Send me an email at -insert mail here- and let me know what you think. If you have something to contribute to the show, I’d love to hear about it. Right now I’m mostly in need of Muppet Babies material.

I’m quite the Muppet collector and will post some pics of various treasures I have laying around, but I’m sure there is more out there than all of us ever could have at once. Maybe we could start a Muppet “virtual collection” with pics contributed by listeners! I’ll look into starting that up.

Anyhoo, thanks for checking out the show, come back and see us real soon on The MuppetCast, Yaaaaaaaaaaay!

Great job Steve. I read about your podcast on the DPN, so it was great to hear the first episode. I grew up on Sesame Street and the Muppet Show, my Dad is a big Muppets and Dark Crystal fan, and now my son is learning from Elmo.
So it would great to hear you talk about the many present and past Muppets from all over the world of entertainment.

And a question for you: I had always heard from Dad about the Muppets appearing on the first few (10?) episodes of Saturday Night Live, but I was only 5 & 6 at the time and never saw the episodes. (They’re on itunes & dvd now). Can you give the history on how that arrangement came to be and how it ended?

Again, thanks for a great show!

    Steve,

We all absolutely LOVED the podcast. Thanks so much for telling us about it. Juliannah loved hearing you mention her in it, thank you for that. The kids danced to each song and giggled at all right moments. Of course Juliannah came up with great ideas the minute it was over. She thinks that since Kermit and Piggy are in love, someone should come up with a cute baby for them. We were entertaining the idea of what this interspecies offspring would be called and decided that it would be a Pirog and it’s favorite food would be Pirogies.
We have a very cute Muppet babies Christmas book, it would be great for the holidays, let us know if you are interested.
We are looking forward to the next podcast.

    Peace,
    Karoline and the kids

Wonderful! Super job Steve. Finally a Muppet podcast. This is not only a great addition to the Muppet community but also a real great quality podcast all around. I can’t wait for more. Keep up the great work. My hat is off to you.

P.S. – I’m sharing the news (here). And thanks for the plug for my site in the cast.

Great Idea… the The muppets at Disney World show is what inspired me to work for the mouse. Keep it going!!!

Like many, I’ve enjoyed (and emulated) the Muppets for many years. A tear still comes to my eye when I think of the magic and loss of Jim Henson.

I don’t own a copy of the WDW special but I would have thought Eisner would have appeared. He did talk to Kermit in an intro for the John Denver Christmas special. You can see it here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=5wEsxGM0TG8

I thought the Live Lab looked cool but very stiff. I was also disappointed by the vocal quality in the clip. Still, its a very cool concept.

Thanks very much for the podcast and for helping to keep the magic of Jim and his team alive. Looking forward to more.

  9. Ideas I wish I’d thought of…

I realize I’ve ended my post title in a preposition. Please deal.
Here are just a few Monday *cough* afternoon *cough* links that are so clever and interesting they’ve inspired my jealousy and keyboard.

Hey, is there any reason why your Amazon link is fixed with a MuppetCentral tag? They get money from that — are you working for them?

Sam, I’m not an official part of Muppet Central, and I do realize that they get money when people click and reserve TMS Season 2 from my site. However, 1) I don’t have my own agreements with Amazon to do the same thing, and more importantly 2) the folks at Muppet Central deserve it.

    Good question!

Your podcast is great! You give me facts that I don’t already know and have known for ages. The songs from The Muppets at Walt Disney World are GREAT! Having songs from the Muppet specials like that really help keep me upbeat when listening. I LOVE IT.
Also, I have a large collection of Muppet Mp3s that I have created myself using a software on my computer and my muppet videos and DVDs. If you are looking for a certain track, you can ask me. Chances are I’ll have or be able to get it for you.
    Happy to help!
