Foul – where are MahnaMahna and the Snowths? You could have put the fringe muppets from TheShow in the bracket before adding animated characters (actually – the last 6 entries in The Rest are dreadful)
Looking forward to The Chamberlain / Oscar showdown from the East. None of the Fraggles will beat the Muppets from The Show
Good points Bryan. I think maybe next time we’ll need to start with 16 in each bracket, as we’ve already been notified of several people’s favorites who were left out.
However, it does no good to cry foul….Swetums ate the refs. He was mad about being left out too.
Wow a couple of them are neck and neck! Every 12 hours is killing me lol Love the idea Steve! Again, thanks for all your hard work in this. I know you left out some oldies but goodies but maybe next year. Really we all know a certain Muppet of the green persuation will end up being victorious! LOL Okay, maybe it’s not that much of a shoe in but it is fun to see how the cards are stacked between some charaters which means you did an amazing job pairing them up.
I agree that 16 in each bracket would work better! (Though I disagree that *all* last six of The Rest are dreadful… Emmet Otter was a nice option. And I like that you included some of the more obscure characters here.) But, if Kermit is the No. 1 seed in The Show, you’re telling me Gonzo is No. 8? Bah.
Also kudos to some of the pairings… Dark Crystal vs Labyrinth, the two commercials, Oscar vs. Big Bird. More of this kind of matchup next time if you folks don’t want to deal with seeding. ;o)
Thanks for putting this together! A terrific idea!
It’s interesting…Kermit is ahead by about 9 points, then Bert and Ernie are tied with Sprocket for top number of votes so far! And there’s two of Bert and Ernie, so technically they have half the number of points each.
Will we have a Sprocket/Kermit show down as all the other contestants are divided?
WOW was this designed to make my head explode??? OK obviously hard choices in the Street and Show categories but in the others….Bear and Emmet are my favorite non-core Muppets of all time! I may have a nervous break down!
One problem with how this is set up. It looks like does IP based filtering which means when a friend on my network voted, I can no longer vote. This makes me sad and means my co-workers can’t vote either once one of them votes.
Hmmm, let me see if I can fix that problem Tracy. I certainly don’t want to prevent anyone from voting!
Okay I’ve changed the vote logging to “By Cookie” instead of “By Cookie and IP Address”. So try it now Tracy.
Can we get a muppet show NIT? I was disappointed to see that “bubble muppets” such as The Swedish Chef, Statler & Waldorf and Dr. Teeth did not have a high enough RPI to make the dance….
They were both actually in earlier versions of the brackets, but didn’t make the final cut. Maybe we’ll have to do just a Muppet Show tournament sometime in the future!
I’m so excited! I know none of the Fraggles will beat the Muppets, but gosh, I wish Red could take it.
OH! Oh! It’s all changed since I was here earlier in the day. Elmo’s closing the gap, Cookie’s overtaken Grover, Animal and Beaker have switched places!
All I can say is in the spirit of the game….Go Animal!!!!
Kudos to you Steve, this was a lot of fun. I was actually stressed out seeing who was coming out on top. Beauregard Sprocket got so many votes not because of the awesomeness of the character but because of the lameness that is Junior Gorg. I predict Sprocket won’t make it past the second round! I can’t believe how truly excited I was when I wrote that last sentence. I wish there was more cross pollination between the four brackets, it pained me to choose between Grover and Cookie Monster as well as forcing to pick a favorite(more acurately who is less lame?) between Baby Sinclair and Skeeter. I will be closely following this tournament.
WHAT? Junior Gorg is so not lame, but he is getting mopped all over the floor by Sprocket!
Considering that Ma Gorg would probably make him use Sprocket as a mop in real life, I think that’s fair enough!
What I don’t understand is how on the one hand people are complaining that Big Bird won’t be appearing in many shows in the future, and on the other hand are voting him into non existence! Poor old Bird.
How on EARTH is Wilkins & Wontkins losing? Do we have to send Wilkins over with his cannon?
I think we should pull a Sanjaya with the Bear/Emmett winner, and vote them to the top.
If someone gets injured can you bring in the Canadian Streeters Louie the Otter and Basil the Bear?
Kevin, I’m game with that as long as it’s Emmet that wins!
Go Emmet Otter!
Oh no, no Ojo. What get idea. but we need a guy smiley recap each day.
This is just fun! I get up in the morning and vote and then get home from work and vote! I find myself getting excited when my favorites are in the lead and get anxious to see those who are trailing behind.
Hey Steve love the tourney idea. I’m all for in the future doing an all show brackets as there are so many great characters there. As for this one my Final Four pick is Kermit, Oscar, Red and Hoggle.
This is so much more fun for me than basketball. I completely agree with sj that Guy Smiley should do a recap each day. Also, I’m already looking forward to future tournaments.
The first-round match up I care about the most: GO TELLY!
People aren’t giving Red Fraggle enough credit. She is by far the most athletic of all the muppets. After all cliff diving is one of her many hobbies.
Wow, I’m so glad everyone’s so excited about the tournament! Keep on voting!!!
when do we get to move to round 2?
Great question! Round 2 begins Sunday, March 21.
Awesomeness.
And no Doozers to represent the Rock! I love Cotterpin!
Team Grover all the way!! Woo Hoo!
I’m also hoping Telly wins over Elmo and that Red takes everyone from the Show
So, is it true that whichever Muppet wins the tournament gets to play in the final game of the real March Madness?
Elmo? Seriously? What’s WRONG with you people?
I agree with laura! Come on Ernie and Bert!
Will there be a Round 2?
Al, Round 2 voting is actually happening right now. If you are only looking at this specific blog post you won’t see it. However, you can easily access the Round 2 brackets by just revering the the normal web address, muppetcast.com/tournament.
Have fun! -Steve
