Deadline reports that Spanish-language network Univision will begin showing Sesame Amigos, a newly-created 30-minute production of Sesame Workshop on August 1 at 8:30am ET/PT. This is different from other non-English Sesame shows; this show is made for a US audience, not an international one.
“Sesame Amigos is a new and innovative show designed specifically for Spanish-speaking families in the U.S. While versions of Sesame Street air in more than 150 countries, Sesame Amigos will provide Spanish-speaking preschoolers the tools they need to succeed in the United States,” says Alberto Ciurana, president of Programming & Content, Univision Communications Inc. Sesame Amigos will be part of Univision’s “PlanetaU” programming block
There are currently 26 episodes scheduled, featuring the popular Sesame Street characters interacting with Univision celebrities.
“Planeta U” is a three-hour block of children’s programming that airs on Saturday mornings, and includes Spanish-language versions Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go!, and Pinky Dinky Doo. For older children (age 8 to 12) they include Inspector Gadget’s Field Trip, and 13-16 year olds will enjoy Beakman’s World.
